Carbon Steel Plate
The steel used to create storage tanks falls into two main categories: carbon steel and stainless steel. Carbon steels can be divided into three main categories: low carbon steel, medium carbon steel, and high carbon steel.
1045 is a medium carbon steel is used when greater strength and hardness is desired than in the "as rolled" condition. Extreme size accuracy, straightness and concentricity combine to minimize wear in high speed applications. Commonly used in gears, shafts, axles, bolts, studs and machine parts.

Its composition mainly includes iron, carbon, and manganese. 1023 steel plate does not have strong heat resistance compared to other steels due to its low carbon content; therefore it should not be used for applications requiring high temperature operation unless proper heat treatments are applied beforehand such as tempering or annealing.
It is an economical, general purpose steel grade offering moderate strength and toughness. As a standard grade, 1008 steel is used in many common, low-stress applications. Weldability (spot, projection, butt, and fusion) and brazeability are excellent.
